Future Guardians of Peace
With cameras in hand, these seven young people – 6 young men and one young woman – are acting as big brothers and sisters to their younger classmates in school, reconnecting to scattered family members, sharing their tiny allowances with former war buddies and listening to their stories. They are learning to appreciate nature by seeing with a photographer’s eye as well as beginning to understand the link between restoring Nature and restoring themselves.
In March of 2008, renowned photo-journalist Andre Lambertson conducted a week-long photography training with FGP. Not only did the kids immediately begin taking stunning photos, they also began using the cameras to build relationships in the community. The photos opened unexpected doors to their own stories, their healing process and their journey of becoming Future Guardians of Peace. Most recently an exhibit took place September 11- October 14 at the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, DC. International traveling exhibits and documentary screenings are also being planned in Liberia, in Santa Barbara, CA, New York, NY and other US cities.
